Shopping Fast

I've been convicted to go on a shopping fast.

I tend to spend money left and right during the summer.  Part of it is on entertainment, but I think part of it is having more time on my hands to shop.  Add in the big clearance sales they always have around this time of year, and I'm toast, purchasing ahead for the kids for next summer, etc.  The other night I stumbled into a "Extra 40% off sale prices" sale at Banana, and couldn't resist adding several outfits to my recently pared down closet.

And that's when I decided, enough's enough.

How can I justify all this spending when there are so many that go without?

So for one month, I am going on a shopping fast.  No purchases outside of food or unforeseen necessities that come up.  (Necessities being things that we genuinely couldn't do without.)

My first temptation came this morning after I survived the 4th doctor's appointment in a week's time (with all kids in tow) and wanted to "reward" myself with a stop at Tim Horton's.  I wrestled with the decision and reminded myself that the $2 I might spend on an iced capp is more than some people make in a day.

We are so entirely blessed to have a solid roof over our heads, more than enough food and clothes, all our materials needs met.  I want to spend this month being grateful with what I have, not seeking to have more.

Anyone care to join me?

This is quality "living the width" work, Lisa! I fully expect a follow up post after the month is done...and then I'll see about being inspired to try it as well ;)

Lisa, I love this! Lance and I have done this several times for Lent and it always feels great!
